Changing
the DNS servers for your domain
- Before changing the DNS servers for your
domain, you need to find out the Primary and Secondary DNS server
names of your web host. This should be something like ns1.nameserver.com
and ns2.nameserver.com.
They may also give you a set of numbers commonly known as an IP
address for each of these names (eg. 123.123.1.2). It is preferably
to use the host name of your name servers as your web host may
change the IP address of their name server sometime. It is very
unlikely they will change the host name of the DNS servers.
- Login to our Domain
Manager.
- Enter your domain name and password.
Remember, your domain name does not include the "www."
hostname. If you forgot your
password, please contact us.
- Click on the hyperlink - NameServers,
under the View/Modify
section .
- Change the Use:
option from Our NameServers
to Your Own NameServers.
- At the Custom
NameServers section, enter the
Primary DNS Server name provided to you by your web hosting provider
in Row 1. Enter the Secondary DNS Server name in Row 2. Rows 3 and 4
are for hosting companies that provide you with a 3rd and 4th DNS
server. In most cases rows 3 and 4 can be left blank.
- Click on the Modify
button to save your changes.

Please
note that any changes to your DNS name server information will take up
to 48 hours before they take effect. The reason for this is that all
other DNS servers throughout the world need time to update or propagate
to the changes you have made.
Common
DNS Server Problems
Q)
I'm getting an error message that says "Errors modifying
nameservers: Invalid attribute value". What does these mean?
A) The host name you provided is invalid or not registered with
the central Registry. Sometime the host name you provided could be
misspelled or you used a wrong IP Address instead of an actual host
name. Go back and check the spelling. Re-confirm with your web hosting
provider that the DNS server name you have is correct and registered. Do
not
use IP Address as the host name for a name server. If problems persist,
please contact technical support.
Q)
How long will it take for my nameserver changes to take effect?
A) Any changes to your name server information will take up to 48
hours before they take effect. The reason for this is that all other DNS
servers throughout the world need time to update or propagate to the
changes you have made. If problems persist beyond 2 days, please contact
technical support. Be sure to provide us
with your domain name and the name servers you want to use for your
domain.
Q)
Why have the changes I made just disappeared?
A) You probably forgot to save your modifications. Make certain
to click on the Modify
button to save any changes you've made.
